Step 1: Examine where your LinkedIn ad spend is going

  1. Go to your LinkedIn Engagement report in Dreamdata.

  2. Sort by accounts receiving the most impressions.

  3. Identify the top 50 accounts receiving most impressions and double check that they all align with your ICP.

Step 2: Exclude non-ideal accounts from LinkedIn campaigns

  1. If there are any outliers you can go into LinkedIn and manually exclude these from the campaign or campaign groups running these ads.

  2. Sort by Campaign group to see which campaigns are being shown to these non-ICP accounts.

  3. Now you can guarantee that your ad spend is going to the right accounts and that the impact will be high.

Step 3: Assess LinkedIn ads engagement by pipeline stage

  1. Filter by accounts that are currently in your sales pipeline (SQL).

  2. Check whether these are being targeting by relevant campaigns to ensure you’re providing air cover for the sales teams trying to close these accounts.

Step 4: Ensure acquisition campaigns aren’t targeting existing customers

(Unless your goal is upselling)

  1. In the Linkedin Engagement report, filter by Newbiz accounts.

  2. See which accounts you're inadvertently spending money on and exclude them from your LinkedIn ad campaigns to optimise your ad spend.
